In order to help the 2025 freshmen at our University better adapt to university life, and to guide them in understanding, learning about, and loving chemical engineering, on the morning of September 12, our University invited Zhu Shiping, Vice President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and Fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, to give the "First Lesson of Chemical Engineering." Vice President Gu Xuehong attended and presided over the lecture.

Before the seminar, Wang Shan, the counselor of the 2025 class of the School of Chemical Engineering, performed "The Song of Chemical Engineering," with lyrics written by Academician Zhu Shiping. Gu Xuehong welcomed Academician Zhu Shiping and introduced his background. During the seminar, Academician Zhu Shiping began with the topics of "What is Chemical Engineering" and "What do Chemical Engineers do," using vivid and humorous language to explain the origin and development of engineering, elaborating on the differences and connections between science and engineering. He then led into "What do we study in Chemical Engineering," explaining the professional knowledge and curriculum system necessary to excel in the field. He encouraged the 2025 freshmen to solidly master their professional knowledge, apply what they learn, and contribute the strength of chemical engineers to the development of the discipline and society.

Members of the leadership team of the College of Chemical Engineering, all freshmen of the Class of 2025, representatives of freshmen from related disciplines, and more than 800 people participated in the event.
